Beachy fragrances

A whiff of one of these evocative scents is almost as blissful as digging your toes into the sand. I am sure since we are in Florida…this is reason they are so popular.

Watch for

Beach Bum  captures the essence of summer like no other fragrance; combining juicy mandarin, sand jasmine, and refreshing oceanic mist.  Compare to Bobbi Brown Beach.

Beach Daisies  begins with top notes of Asian lemongrass, dune grass, and daisy petals; followed by middle notes of gardenia bloom, ylang ylang, and clove leaf; sitting on base notes of blond woods, amber sands, and sheer musk.

Island Fresh  smells just like an ocean breeze on a tropical island.  Fresh ozony top notes, followed by fresh greenery, lavender, vanilla, rose , jasmine, and melon, with bottom notes of fresh air.

Drifting Away will remind you of the freedom you feel while sailing on the sea; the warmth of the sun, the tranquility of the water, and the refreshing feel of sea salt mist.  This aroma is a refreshing blend of ozonic sea salt notes, white lilac, white lily, fresh greenery, and woodsy floral notes.

Paradise Reef with notes of nectarine, bird of paradise,  and water lily,  followed by middle notes of passion flower, orchid, and hyacinth.  A well-rounded fragrance empowered by fresh air and salt water notes.

Seaside Cotton  begins with fresh ozony marine notes which blend nicely with romantic base notes of sheer musk and amber.

Soy Pillar Candles

We create them. Some for our display and we do create based on special request. We do not make boring ones.

Candle Burn-time Calculator

Generally, smaller candles such as votives with smaller wicks will burn at a rate of 7-9 hours per ounce of wax used. For example, a two ounce votive may be expected to burn for 14-18 hours. Larger candles with larger wicks will consume wax at a faster rate. The larger wicks can be expected to yield 5-7 hours per ounce of wax used. So, a 16 ounce canning jar, which actually holds only about 12 ounces of wax (by weight), could be expected to burn anywhere from 60-84 hours.

What does this mean…. a 3″ diameter 4″ Tall Pillar should burn for 60-84 hours.

If you have extra wax left over, if you buy if from me. And you are local. Bring what is left to me, and I will create what ever I can and you can pick it back up. No cost to you, it is just part of my service.

Vanilla

In the early 1990s, perfume makers began to introduce vanilla as a significant note in their fragrances.

Vanilla-based fragrances have tended to remind us of pleasant childhood memories associated with the smell of vanilla, its comforting milky warmth.

Vanilla is associated not only with warmth, softness and caring, but also has connotations of purity and simplicity.

So as Aesthetic Candles make are come back…

French vanilla..This pleasurable blend of rich cream, tiny hints of rum with butter is tantalizing to the senses.

Jamaican Vanilla Cafe  a harmony of rich roasted Jamaican coffee and sweet vanilla beans making this scent a delightful temptation.

Vanilla Lavender a relaxing and tranquil scent that is also unique and memorable.  A well-rounded combination of fresh lavender, fresh vanilla beans, with orange zests and patchouli.

Sweet Pea Vanilla  a harmonious blend of ripe red berries, juicy bing cherries, floral sweet pea, and sweet creamy coconut drizzled with vanilla create the recipe for this decadent treat.

Warm Vanilla Sugar a warm vanilla aroma with a musky back note.

Vanilla Blossoms a harmonious blend of French vanilla, fresh air notes and summer flowers.  Vanilla blossom fragrance begins with top notes of dewy fresh air, coconut cream, and ripe pineapple;  followed by middle notes of ylang ylang, star jasmine, and Moroccan roses;  sitting on base notes of French vanilla, Egyptian musk, and exotic sandalwood.

Alleviate Fatigue

Add 2 to 4 drops of black pepper EO to your diffuser along with 1/4 to 1/2 cup of distilled water and run it for 30 to 60 minutes to alleviate fatigue and put a little pep in your step. Black pepper oil has a warm, peppery-spicy fragrance. Try just 2 drops at first. The fragrance can be a bit overwhelming.

Improve Circulation

Mix 1 to 2 drops of black pepper essential oil into 1 teaspoon of carrier oil. Massage the blend into the chest then any areas of the body that are affected by poor circulation. The legs and arms are the most common areas where circulation slows, but you might want to increase the circulation in your abdominal area and back, too.

Speed Bruise Healing

Apply a 1% to 2% black pepper essential oil/carrier oil blend to bruises to speed healing. You can use any carrier oil you like with black pepper oil.

Improve Cognitive Function

Practice black pepper aromatherapy to improve cognitive function. Add 2 drops of black pepper oil and 2 drops of lavender essential oil to your diffuser with 1/4 to 1/2 cup of distilled water and run it for 30 to 60 minutes. It will sharpen your mind, lift your spirits, make you feel more empowered and help you sort out conflicting thoughts.

Alleviate Anxiety

Practice black pepper oil aromatherapy to alleviate anxiety. For an even better anxiety-relieving aromatherapy session, add 2 drops of black pepper oil along with 2 drops of lavender essential oil to the diffuser.

The resulting fragrance is a lovely, relaxing blend of warm, spicy, herbaceous and floral scents.

WHY ESSENTIAL OIL DILUTION IS IMPORTANT?

There are number of different classes of compounds in essential oils. They can be divided into two groups called hydrocarbons and oxygenated compounds. They can be further broken down into their chemical constituents: terpenes (monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and diterpenes), esters, aldehydes, ketones, alcohols, phenols, and oxides. But there’s really no need to worry about those scientific terms.

All you need to know is that the active chemical constituents found in essential oils are powerful – so powerful that they can cause some very serious health problems if not used correctly including: neuro-toxicity, mucolytic irritation, convulsions, headaches, skin burning & discoloration, dermal sensitivity, danger to pets, infants and pregnant women, preexisting condition aggravation, illness or even death when swallowed (for particular oils). This is why it is so important to use caution when handling and applying the oils.

Specifically, there are compounds found in essential oils that are toxic when ingested: boldo, calamus, camphor, cassia, horseradish, mugwort, mustard, pennyroyal, rue, sassafras,  savin, tansy, thuja, wintergreen, wormseed, and wormwood. These oils can be potentially very harmful if ingested or used improperly.

CAUTION

While the use of essential oils is considered 100% safe, the compounds found within the plant essences are very concentrated and powerful. If ever you or a loved one ingests an oil, please do not hesitate to contact Poison Control.

Alleviate Depression and Emotional Pain

Take advantage of bergamot essential oil’s natural mood-boosting properties to alleviate depression. This lovely citrus-based oil improves your mood, drives away that helpless feeling, lifts your spirits and helps you feel motivated again. Put 2 to 3 drops of bergamot oil in your hands, rub them together to warm it up then cup your hands over your nose and mouth. Take some slow, deep breaths.

Reduce Stress and Anxiety

Use bergamot oil to alleviate nervous tension, anxiety and stress. It actually stimulates the production of relaxing, mood enhancing hormones like serotonin and dopamine. Add a few drops of bergamot oil to your diffuser or use it in an oil burner. You will quickly feel a sense of contentment and calm. After a really bad day, put about 10 drops of bergamot EO into a warm bath and take a long, relaxing soak.

Relieve or Reduce Muscle Aches and Pains

Massage about 5 drops of bergamot essential oil right into the source of your pain to get relief. It reduces nerve sensitivity at the source to dull the pain sensation. It can be used on any muscle aches, sprained muscles and headaches. Massage it into your lower back when you have muscle tension and pain there. Rub it into your temples and forehead to eliminate headaches. Try a blend with 5 drops each of bergamot, frankincense and lavender in about a tablespoon of sweet almond oil. What are the Hidden Dangers of Essential Oils?

Highly toxic essential oils include camphor, clove, lavender, eucalyptus, thyme, tea tree, and wintergreen oils, the researchers noted. Many essential oils can cause symptoms such as agitation, hallucinations and seizures.

Essential oils are derived from plant parts.

Many people think essential oils are harmless because they are natural and have been used for a long time. In some cases, that is  not true. Many essential oils can cause rashes if used on the skin. Many can be poisonous if absorbed through the skin or swallowed.

Individuals can have varying reactions to essential oils, as they might to other medicines and products.

Here’s what is known about a few essential oils.

  • Peppermint is used for gastrointestinal discomfort. It’s important to choose the correct species of mint, as some types are poisonous; for example, pennyroyal oil is very poisonous to the liver.
  • Wintergreen is used in some over-the-counter skin preparations to relieve pain. It creates a feeling of warmth because it causes blood vessels to enlarge. BUT – a big but – oil of wintergreen is very dangerous if more than a tiny amount is swallowed. Oil of wintergreen is used as a food flavoring in trace amounts, but drinking from the bottle can be deadly. Swallowing oil of wintergreen is like swallowing a large number of adult aspirin. If someone is on a blood thinner, then I suggest avoiding Wintergreen.
  • Tea tree oil is used for some kinds of fungal skin infections.  When used topically, tea tree oil is generally safe and might be helpful in treating acne and other superficial skin infections. Avoid oral use of tea tree oil, which is toxic when swallowed.
  • Nutmeg is used in food but, when misused or abused, can cause hallucinations and coma.
  • Eucalyptus is used for its soothing effects when inhaled, for example during a cold or cough. If swallowed, eucalyptus oil can cause seizures.
  • Sage oil has been used as a scent, seasoning, and remedy. Swallowing more than a very small amount has caused seizures in children.
  • Camphor is used as a moth repellent and as an ingredient in skin preparations. Even a small amount of camphor is dangerous if swallowed. Seizures can begin within only a few minutes. Camphor poisoning also occurred when skin preparations containing camphor were applied repeatedly on children – more frequently than the label recommended and/or covered up with extra clothing.

Certain constituents of essential oils are very toxic, particularly to vulnerable people like the old, the very young, and pregnant women. On the whole, this toxicity of essential oils applies to an oil when taken internally.

One must remember that one little drop of an essential oil represents between 1 and 1 1/4 oz of the plant itself. Proportion is the key to everything. The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) has addressed the potential problem of the toxicity of essential oils. It has issued a list of oils whose use is restricted in the industries which use fragrances in their products, for example cosmetics and household products.

IFRA gives these oils strict proportion controls and of those used in aromatherapy they include angelica root, baume de Perou, bergamot, cinnamon, cassia, cumin, sassafras and verbena. IFRA has no international legal powers, but most fragrance companies worldwide do follow their guidelines.

In addition to those oils restricted by IFRA, and worthy of close and careful attention: anise, aspic, basil, clove, coriander, hyssop and sage.

These worries mostly concern constituents such as anethol, estragol (methyl-chavicol) and thujone, but I’m also careful about those containing eugenol (which can corrode metal). Toxic reactions can be felt immediately, and range from dizziness and nausea to exhaustion, epilepsy and even death.

Bottom line, essentials need to be respected and understood.
